Updated for the 2015 Tour de France!!!

Updated for the 2012 Tour de France
Tour fan? Want to know what stage is on at what time so you can organise your TV viewing around your work schedule (kidding - kind of)? Want it to dynamically update your calendar as the Tour develops?
Well how's this look...
I've setup an iCal feed for the Tour De France which you can subscribe too. If you use your iCal compliant calendaring tool (iCal.app on Mac or Outlook on PC, or your iPhone) then it will display all the stage details on the days that they happen.
You can see below that it creates a separate Calendar so won't write over the top of any other calendars you have, and can easily be toggled on and off.
As I get updates on the start times, distances and anything else I find interesting I'll update the feed and you will automagically see the updates in your calendar.
This will work (providing anybody uses it) for subsequent years of the TDF as well and will populate as the data becomes publicly available.
I've tested this on iPhone and Mac iCal, just clicking on this:
webcal://openstripe.com/iCals/icalgen.php?cal=tdf
Not sure about other clients, you may need to use the standard http protocol from other apps.
http://openstripe.com/iCals/icalgen.php?cal=tdf
Make sure you subscribe and don't just download the calendar entries otherwise you won't get any updates.
Please leave me a comment if you find this useful, it will help me find the five minutes needed to update the calendar with the stage details.
How to use with Outlook
You can subscribe this calendar in outlook by doing the following.
"File" -> "Account Settings" -> "Account Settings" -> "Internet Calendars" -> "New" -> "webcal://shermanroad.dyndns-home.com/cals/icalgen.php?cal=tdf"
Change the Name to "Tour de France" or something meaningful for you.
You should then be able to toggle it on and off as a new calendar.

Handy thanks
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Works like a charm! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHow do I download the app outlook calendar?
ReplyDeletehow do I subscribe?
ReplyDeleteIt depends what Calendar client you use, if it's iCal.app then simply "Calendar" -> "Subscribe" and enter "http://shermanroad.dyndns-home.com/cals/icalgen.php?cal=tdf".
ReplyDeleteOk Thanks Rob
ReplyDeleteSorry to sound a bit thick - I'm using Microsoft Outlook Calendar and I've now got all the calendar entries but where is "subscribe" in Outlook Calendar?
No problem - I've edited the post to include instructions for Outlook.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob
ReplyDeleteI now have the TDF as a separate calendar in outlook, just awaiting your updates as and when.
Great, as soon as the stage times are released I'll update it this end.
ReplyDeleteUmmm... issues the last several days auto connecting through Outlook... It barks about an 'invalid calendar link' as in
ReplyDeletewebcal://shermanroad.dyndns-home/cals/icalgen.php?cal=tdf
Yep sorry about that, I had a server outage and needed to do some "re-gigging" to get things working again. Will be stable now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the app and the upkeep.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice! Looking forward to keeping up with the tour (at work...)!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great =) Will use it for sure!
ReplyDeleteReally helpful - many thanks for taking the time to organise this.
ReplyDeleteJust subscribed to this on my Mac and iPhone. Very, very useful indeed. I would like to add my thanks for taking the time to create this shared calendar.
ReplyDeleteWorks fine on Google Calendar. Simply go down to Other Calendars in the left column and click Add. Then choose Add by URL and paste in the http address. The calendar then appears in your list of Other Calendars. Make sure it is highlighted with a colour to ensure it is being displayed in your calendar view.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, thanks for the thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Works great with google calendar! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your nice work! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat iCal calendar - thanks for doing this. Have tweeted a link to this page to spread the word!
ReplyDeleteExcellent - Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for your excellent work on this calendar!
ReplyDeleteSomething is strange, though. As I just added the URL to Google Calendar, the stages show up as all day events, rather than with specific times as in your screenshot. Is anyone else seeing this issue?
Hi Jon,
ReplyDeleteThis is because the actual stage times aren't available as far as I can tell anywhere! As soon as I find them I'll edit the calendar it should auto-update for you. If anyone knows where to get the times please let me know...
Found it! Follow the stage information link in the calendar entries, scroll down a bit and select the 'Time schedule' tab under 'Maps and Routes'. You'll find the start and three different estimates for the finish. I suppose these are on Paris time.
ReplyDeletePerfect, I'll try to update them today - just in the nick of time....
ReplyDeleteOk it's updated - happy viewing everyone. C'mon Bradley!
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteWorks great with Outlook 07' Now I won't forget which stage is on a given day.
ReplyDeleteGreat work!
Thanks for putting this together!
Perfect! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteawesome, thanks! i use the http link in my google calendar, working fine.
ReplyDeleteGreat, thanks! Using with google calendar no sweat!
ReplyDeleteWonderfull!!! Works great with Outlook 2010.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Brilliant! Thanks. The URL plugged right into my Google Calendar.
ReplyDeleteWow ..great job.. thanks for the update ..this is very useful to all Tour de France fan...

TDF for 2012 was announced yesterday - I know it's a bit early, but when will you have the ical ready
ReplyDeleteThis iCal feed has now been moved to a properly hosted server. It's also been updated for the 2012 Tour.
ReplyDeleteThe article has been updated to reflect the changes.
Let me know of any problems.
Thanks a lot...I appreciate you putting this together!
ReplyDeleteExcellent. iOS feed seems to work very well. Looking forward to more updates. Is it time zone sensitive?
ReplyDeleteHi Frits - It's Time Zone sensitive in that it should always render the event at the correct time of day for location. I.e. if a stage was to start at 10am CET and you where in California it should read that it starts at 2am PST.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Thank you for doing this. Can't wait for the Tour to start now...
ReplyDeleteawesome... thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect.. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThe Calendar has been updated to include the start and finish times of the stage. This does not always line up with your local TV coverage. Happy viewing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, keep the feeds coming!!!!!
ReplyDeleteUpdated for the 2013 Tour de France
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, worked great
ReplyDeleteThanks for the calendar. My third year of using it. Just wondering if you'll be updating the start times so it's not just an all-day event. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThanks :-) Works great with Google calendar :-)
ReplyDeleteSweet. Will you update the times again this year?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteHave updated with the start and finish times. Refresh the calendar to get the amendments through. Just in time. Half hour to go! Happy viewing all.
Thanks so much! Enjoy the race.
DeleteWill you update the 2014 tour de France?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe 2014 Tour de France iCal details have been updated.
ReplyDeleteGreat Rob. Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated.
Thanks very much indeed, much appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteGreat effort, thanks. Can I suggest that you indicate in the subject line for each stage (ie calendar event) what type of stage it is, ie ITT (individual time trial), TTT (team time trial), flat stage, intermediate stage or mountain stage. I think lots of TdF lovers would like to know that so they can decide which stages they definitely don't want to miss.
ReplyDeleteHey Arno,
DeleteGreat feedback thanks. I'm updating shortly with the Start and Finish times so I'll include as suggested.
Many thanks
I've had a quick stab at this - if you know where I can source this data from, please let me know. It used to be published on the letour website but isn't obvious to me to find.
DeleteLooking forward to start and finish times (rather than "all-day events") ... are those updates still planned?
ReplyDeleteAppreciate your hard work on keeping these updated!
Yes - next couple of days...
DeleteTwo days was never going to work was it...
DeleteAll updated now - enjoy the next few weeks all.
Thank you!!
DeleteWell done.
ReplyDeleteBe great though to have distance and stage type in brackets after stage.
e.g. TDF: Stage 2; York > Sheffield (198k, Hilly)
Hi Rob,
ReplyDeleteEnjoying already your TDF calendar for a few years! Thanks!
Looking forward to see the 2015 Calendar! Any update on that?
Regards
Hey glad you're finding it useful.
DeleteYeah I need to get on that! Will get it sorted in the next few weeks.
regards
Hey,
DeleteIt's been updated for 2015 - minus the data that hasn't yet been published. Will get that in when it's posted to letour.fr.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteCan I subscribe to this calendar by using Google Calendar, rather than having to upload a separate file to the calendar?? I'm a bit of a newbie with calendars...
Yes you should be able to, other users have done it. I think this process might be it: https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/37100?hl=en

Người phụ nữ an ủi Từ Minh.
